STEPHANIE'S 1973 KARMANN GHIA CONVERTIBLE
This car was originally a Colorado car, then it
spent about 10 years in New Mexico. It sat at my
friends parents house for another 8 years, until I
finally talked him into selling it to me. My son & I
trailered the car from New Mexico to Ohio during
the summer of 2002. Restoration began in 2005.

This car has 91,000 original miles & is one of only
2,650 KG convertible made in 1973.
The first order of business was
welding in bracing so that the old
replaced. The braces ensure
proper door & roof alignment.
The old floors where cut out &
new floors from Denmark where
welded in.
Even though this car had very little rust due to the dry
was cut out, the remaining metal was sandblasted,
painted with POR15 paint, & undercoated.

Once all of the major welding & body work were
done, the entire underside was painted with POR15
paint & undercoated.
For reliability & safety, 90% of the car's brake system was replaced with new
parts. The suspension was in good shape & alreadyhad front & rear
aftermarket anti-sway bars installed, so little work was needed in this area
The gas tank was cleaned out & the inside was coated with POR15 tank
sealer.
The only real body work to do
was the front turn signal.

front years ago, & when it
was repaired they did not
have the turn signal housing,
so they made the turn signal
opening the wrong size &
shape.
I bought a good used turn signal housing & started the repair process by
position & filler metal was welded in.  A small amount of body filler was
used to smooth over everything.

The turn signal now fits properly.

with built in "breakerless" ignition, swivel foot rocker arm adjusters, SCAT
