Due to popular demand, Awesome
Powdercoat LLC  is offering completely
rebuilt thermostat flaps, blasted and
powder coated.

Back in the 1970's it seems like everyone
threw away the flaps when they rebuilt an
engine. Now you can restore proper
temperature control to your engine and
have it look good and last a long time!

All flaps are blasted to bare metal, test fit
and rebuilt as needed, this includes new
washers, new spacers, entirely new
horizontal and vertical linkages if needed.

It all depends on what you want and what
we have to start with.

The default color is satin black, but other
colors are possible.

A thermostat flaps kit for the doghouse fan
shroud is $99 includes:
-  thermostat bracket
-  vertical control rod
-  L & R flaps
- short linkages
- long horizontal linkage
- all washers and retainer clips
- 8 installation engine tin screws

Good used thermostats are getting harder and
harder to find. Of the 5 original VW German
thermostats shown below, only the one in the
mounting bracket actually works. You need to test
all used thermostats in the bracket by putting it in
ice water to shrink it, then in near boiling water to
expand it. If it doesn't shrink in cold and expand in
hot, they it does not work!

The thermostat actually contains a small amount
of volatile fluid (supposedly isopropyl alcohol, IPA)
that when heated, increases the pressure in the
sealed thermostat, causing it to expand. After 30+
years, the bellows crack, allowing liquid to escape.

New VW Mexico thermostat is shown below. It obviously
looks different, but it functions the same. When heated, it
gets longer, opening the thermostat flaps.
