100% brand new, made in the USA, thermostat flaps for all years of vintage volkswagens, 1964 - 1979
I have been rebuilding vintage Volkswagen thermostat flaps for a long time. I have been adding more and more new parts to replace vintage parts that are no longer available. i finally decided to go 100% new.
My parts are laser cut for proper fit.
My parts are fixture assembled to make sure they fit and work correctly.
I offer all versions, early, with bowden tube if needed, and i have the horziontal cross bars by year. So you can get exactly what you need for your year car.
I compared all the flaps VW has made, German, Brazil, and Mexico, there are differences. I took the best features of each and put them together in 1 set of parts.
I have also made improvements.
The number one problem with thermostat flaps is that when you try to remove them, the bolts are rusted to the flaps, and you end up busting off the screws, then you got to drill them out and retap them. What a pain! That will never happen with my flaps. Why? Because the threads are aluminum, yep, the bolts can rust all they want, you can still get the flaps off without busting off a screw!
The 2nd issue is concerns about the "triple trees" rusting, and the horizontal linkage gets rusting in place, so your engine overheats because the flaps are rusted in the closed position. This will never happen with my flaps because the bushing on the "triple trees" are aluminum, not steel.
All flaps fit all VW and aftermarket shrouds, the main difference is in the horiziontal cross bar linkages used.
There are three doghouse flap kits, depending on year, if you dont care about your year, pick the kit you like best.
There are three early flap kits (for internal oil cooler), 68, 69 and 70 have an extra arm on the generator side that runs a cable to the stock air cleaner to open a flap. If you have a 68,69, or 70 and do not run the stock air cleaner, you can get the 64-67 kit, it will save you some money.
I also have fixed California flaps, for folks that want proper air flow but are not concerned about proper engine warm up, gas mileage and engine wear. See the dedicated page for that.
